Staying on track
Anyone can make a list of goals. All you need is your imagination and you can come up with a list in just a few minutes. You can even do it while doing something else. It’s that easy. Planning and coming up with strategies on how to accomplish them is an entirely different matter. You still need to use your imagination and think out of the box but you also need to take into consideration real-world factors. Factors like resources, time, and how working towards your goal will affect your family. That’s just the second step of the process of achieving your goals. The third one, which in my opinion, is the most difficult one is staying on track.
Whether it’s a business goal or a personal goal, staying on track or sticking to your plans is not as easy as it sounds. Let’s look at a seemingly simple goal. Let’s say you want to lose a couple of pounds. You already consulted with your doctor, chose which diet method you are comfortable with, and came up with a diet plan with your nutritionist. Now it’s all up to you to stick with the plan. However, there will be temptations along the way. That new menu in your favourite restaurant. A new revolutionary diet plan endorsed by famous influencers. That piece of cake sitting in your fridge. Diverting from your plan even once can bring everything down. It takes a lot of willpower to stay on track. With that said, how do you stay on track?
Keep An Eye On Your Competitors
Your competitors are not your enemies, instead, see them as valuable sources of information. Focus on your business by also keeping an eye on the other players in the market. Learn from their mistakes and take valuable insights from their successes. Learn to adjust and adapt your business plan based on what your competitors are doing. Fill in the gaps in the market by tailoring your plans to provide what consumers want that are not currently being offered by other companies. This is about changing your mindset and sticking with your plan yet still being flexible.
Keep A Journal And Be Honest
When it comes down to it, staying on track is all about self-discipline. We all love the idea of being disciplined but after a few days, we lose that desire and fall back to our old ways. We forget why we want to stay on track. We forget the feeling of excitement when we initially set out to achieve our goals. One great way of reminding us what we are working for is to keep a journal. Journaling every step of the process will help remind you of what your main objective is and in which stage of the journey you are in. It will also show how much progress you have made. One thing to remember though when keeping a journal is to always be honest with yourself.
