Challenges leaders need to overcome
It’s no question that overcoming challenges is a big part of being a leader. It just seems that you are being bombarded on all sides yet you still manage to come out on top. Even if you don’t, you are still able to find ways to make the best out of a negative situation. With all the challenges that you face every day, what are the ones that really stick out? What are the common challenges leaders need to overcome?
It isn’t easy being a leader yet it is one of the most rewarding roles. When everything falls into place, not only do you feel the pride in what you have accomplished but also of what your team has achieved. However, when things go down the drain, it is up to you to turn things around. You need to be prepared when things do go down and part of the process is knowing what are the common challenges that leaders are facing. Whether it is a just small hump or a roadblock, knowing what these challenges are will help you prepare for the rest of your journey as a leader.
Humility
A leadership role is a position of power. It is a position that is very hard to acquire. Once you’ve earned the role of a leader, it can be so easy to believe that everything that you do is right. When things are going as planned and you start hearing praises and accolades, it’s so easy to believe that all of that is because of your own doing. You start to think that you should be getting all the credit. When you start feeling this way, just stop. Do you want to follow an arrogant leader? I am positive that the answer would be a resounding No. The best leaders know that leadership is about inspiring and influencing and not authority. It is challenging to stay humble in a position of power yet it is a quality that will help you improve as a leader in the long run.
Self-Confidence
One of the challenges that leaders need to overcome is self-doubt. There is this condition called impostor syndrome where the more you succeed the more you feel that you’re not really who people think you are. This creates self-doubt which causes your self-confidence to take a plunge. As mentioned before, leadership is about inspiring and influencing. How can you if you don’t believe in yourself? This is a great challenge that most leaders have to face. They have to have the willpower to shut out the internal voice that tells them that they’re a fraud and not good enough.
